In that 70-90% calculation he included the Japanese manga artist and character designer dragon ball akira toriyama T-Shirt and I love this value lost due to Foreign Exhange regulations. It’s a long story and difficult to explain but to put it in “simple” terms: Step 2: They are forced to sell the USD/foreign currency in the internal Aregntine Fx Market at an “official rate” of AR$ 375/U$D 1. On paper the tax seems 33%. However, the “REAL rate” of AR$/U$D is at $1000/$1. So, they paid an “unofficial tax” of $625 per U$D1 earned in exports because of Fx Regulations. In total, they get $250 from every $1000 exported. That’s, in gross terms, a 75% tax. Just to be extra clear, you are forced to bring your U$D exports into Argentina and forced to sell them at that “official rate”. Not doing so would be illegal and would probably end up with your export permit being revoked, fines and other sanctions (maybe jail).

Also, if you google the Japanese manga artist and character designer dragon ball akira toriyama T-Shirt and I love this ARS/USD rate, the official FX rate will pop up. However, nobody can access/buy at that rate (except the governemnt) and the street value of USD is the “real rate” mentioned. This real rate is the one that ties up the country’s inflation and price of living, so any calculation under the “official rate”/google rate is just a theoretical econonic bubble the government created to “preserve” their account balances/balance of payments. Also, this is a gross oversimplification. The system is even more complicated and there are other taxes and costs paid because of these regulations, but I think you’ll get the overall jist from it. Oh yeah, Australia is perfect example of industrialization, their main exports are coal, iron ore, natural gas and gold. Best part – their iron ore exported almost exclusively to China (you gotta support this mastodon with 1 bln tonnes of steel produced annually), same is true for coking coal – it supplied exclusively to Asia. There’s no export of finished goods from Australia, just raw materials. Yes though livestock agriculture (Australia also in the early 20th century relied on this and its still a big industry in borh places) is very different to mining (which Argentina hasn’t relied on as much)
