A lot of people try to characterize both sides as equally reasonable or unreasonable, but the truth of the matter is that is rarely the case. Sometimes people are just F’ing wrong and both-siderism isn’t going to change that. People don’t tend to look down on “centrism”, but in the US in particular, “centrism” is a used improperly to refer from right-wing to far-right wing ideology. In the US, we have two dominant political parties — the center-right Democrats, and the far-right Republicans. We also have a segment of the Democrats that are closer to center, called “progressives”, but they don’t have their own party. We lack a left (and certainly, the number of far-left people in the US is in the tens of people. So, in the US, at least, “centrism” is a misnomer and cryptic form of right-wing. People, that know what centrism is, on both sides, then look upon “centrists” as being disingenuous.
