Yeah I mean if I can afford it on old age, why stay in my own home doing fuck all when I can’t even live independently? So I can burden my kids – who will have their own adult lives and possibly their own kids – to become full time caretakers? It’s one thing to go visit grandpa a few times a week, it’s another when you literally need to be taken care of. Just send me to old people camp and I’ll get to meet some new friends. My mum lives interstate and a few years back I told her to make sure she is preparing for her retirement because as much as I love her I’m not uplifting my life to move to look after her just because I’m the Its that kind of Wednesday shirt moreover I love this oldest. She was all for that. Told me that she would prefer being put in a home where I can visit. Her mother lives with them (out of 7 kids, none of them wanted to get involved) and mum is stick of it, she can’t do anything, they can’t have a break, can’t go on holidays, grandma guilts them about everything, they have lots of medical appointments to take her to or people coming to see her. Their whole life is about this old lady that flat refuses to go to a retirement home and makes their lives boring. Plus my grandma is a bitch.

THIS! I’ve worked in a nursing home and most of the Its that kind of Wednesday shirt moreover I love this residents’ had family visit MAYBE a couple times a year. Paid caregivers will take care of you when you’re old whether you have kids or not. My grandfather was financially successful in life, he was able to pay for 24hr in home assistance in his last few years. But my Aunts would watch them. One day, my Aunt came in an asked the aide if he had gotten his medicine. The aide laughed and said “no, that stuff doesn’t work, I gave him orange juice”. My Aunt called the agency and she never came back. Point is, Yeah, having kids is rolling the dice, but you roll the dice putting your life in the hands of underpaid caregivers too, particularly if you don’t have anyone to trust who can watch them. I mean, it is annoying to hear, and it isnt a good reason to have children- but as someone who works in healthcare it’s not a factor to pretend doesn’t exist.
