So we get refunded, right? This happened to me this morning! I had a Zelle payment of $1,750 that was sent to me post twice and confirmed the person who sent it only had $1,750 withdrawn from their account. So now I have $3,500. We’ll see if this gets “fixed”. My brother had zelled me $10 yesterday night & woke up this morning to it be charged twice out of my account, I am out $20 I hate corporations, but Chase has an unofficial (I believe) policy of forgiving 1 overdraft a year. After a few years, I had my first couple overdrafts all at once, and I was between jobs and broke. I called and they said that since I never asked them to forgive any overdrafts before, they’d go ahead and give me a forgiveness for each last year too and forgive all of them. Other banks hadn’t done that for me before, and I appreciated it. So, I guess I’ll forgive them this once.

There’s a lot of payments going out from your bank account and very few going in. The odds are any problem will be in taking money out of your account. Happened with my zelle payment yesterday. Ended up overdrawing my checking and forcing an automatic transfer from my savings Just happened today with the girlfriend. Sent her half of the rent over and it sent it twice. Luckily I hadn’t sent mine yet either, and also my landlord isn’t a scumbag so it probably wouldn’t have been too much of an issue. The fucked up part is it left her negative(something zelle typically won’t let you do I thought) and they didn’t have anything to tell her about when it would be reversed, only that the overdraft fees would be waived. It doubled every Zelle payment I made. Nothing like waking up way overdrawn. Luckily I knew the people so they sent the double payment back but wtf. It’s not a startup, this shot shouldn’t happen. Having worked as a teller in the past, if a deposit is mistakenly made into your account, there will be a memo credit pending which is then offset by a memo debit for the reversal which will then disappear overnight. If the mistake isn’t caught immediately or with enough time, the credit will usually post to the account which is then offset with a debit, but those will typically stay on a statement.
