I’ve a last gen macbook pro 16. 10 hour battery life billed, but using baisc offic apps (word, excel, PowerPoint, outlook) I get 1.5 to 2 hours. The MS apps dominate the cpu usage, even when not being the window in focus. Simialry I’ve a 10 year old Linux laptop which gets 5 hours running some basic home services. The battery and cpu efficency is way better on the modern mac, but when the (shitty) SW maxes out the CPU it kills a decade of HW advances. I always complained that I don’t care about the camera on my phone or how thin it is. I just want better battery life. And people have made fun of me for it.

Just blanket demanding thicker gadgets is daft, I’d never carry one of the new pro laptops around every day and I don’t miss the time when I had to lug 2kg with me. New tech is going to allow battery recharge times under 9 minutes to allow thinner batteries that may not last as long but charge much faster
