Money. Yeah, the In A World Where You Can Be Anything Be Kind Shirt and I will buy this core idea was great and it could have/used to be implemented well in the past. Now it’s all just a scam and anyone that thinks otherwise doesn’t actually understand what the point of money was actually supposed to be. Like, if I spend 9 hours a day building chairs but need chicken for dinner… the guy that farms chickens might not need another chair and won’t trade me for the chicken I need. So we invent money in the form of rare, shiny rocks so that the time I put into working on something can be traded to people that might not necessarily need the thing I worked on. But hey, we have all these shiny IOU’s now and they’re really valuable so we should keep them somewhere safe. So we invent banks. Then somehow we didn’t notice that the people we put in charge of protecting all our gold has been pulling rules out of their ass about ways we have to keep losing what we gave them to protect, how much that money is actually worth, how we’re only allowed to do certain things in life as long as our made-up score that they’ve invented for us is above a certain number, etc.
