For many it’s because they like idea of dressing up a female character in ways they like, assuming that’s an option. Or because they just got tired of always defaulting to make characters. But for others, opportunity to “be” someone else entirely. Especially if they would like to be that gender but can’t/won’t. Can’t speak for anyone else, but I always play female characters if it’s an option. Feels weird to play a guy online, IDK. I think most of what I see here in this thread are post-rationalisations. Fashion? Maybe, but we still do this in games where there aren’t many customisation options? Horny? Again, maybe, but people still do this in games where not everything is super horny. Smaller hitboxes? Like, where? This one’s not even true for most games, and even in games where it comes up it’s rarely relevant. The gender thing doesn’t really ring true either though.
