Can you even get homeowners insurance if your house was built on that beach? this gives me memories of my great aunts river house because we had to walk a good 300 feet up these giant stone stairs that had been there years. of course i hated it when i was younger but now it explains why her house has been there 100s of years without flooding Not even joking just a few days ago I was on that street and looking at that house while it was still standing. That house was completely tilted towards the ocean, its crazy to see it just crumble like that. What kind of shit construction is that? It’s obviously meant to deal with storm surge as it is on stilts yet the stilts were what failed. Nature will absorb all we’ve done to it. Every hurricane and flood I imagine is the earth trying to respond to its destruction.

We had a house about that big 1/2 a block from the I’m Just Here For The Turkey Lights Santa Hat Christmas Thanksgiving Day T-Shirt also I will do this beach. My grandfather put a compass in at the stair rail in case we ever floated out to sea. He was joking at the time, not as funny these days. There are so many abandoned homes in OBX because of this very real fear. Did a tour and it seemed like 3/5 houses were abandoned. No just empty vacation homes. Abandoned. My grandmas house is on the Oregon Coast. She built it in a cheap area when she was younger. It’s probably going to go over the cliff and into the sea unless she can pay to have it moved… she can’t. And they’ll turn right around and rebuild in the same spot. And be sad when it happens again in 20yrs. Rinse and repeat. And people will still claim after watching this that the seas aren’t rising from climate change. People actively refused to believe with their eyes and much rather believe whatever crap is being spewed on Twitter. Building on the Outer Banks is absurd. Those islands are constantly changing shape. You can only hold Mother Nature back but for so long. The beach is the battleground between the land and the sea. You wouldn’t buy land in an active war zone so why do people buy land on the beach? Honestly whoever abandons an entire home into the ocean like that needs to be sued by the government. The banks that approved the mortgage to build there should be fined heavily.
