On the I’m Just Here For The Food Thanksgiving Shirt and I will buy this one hand… gamers who post here and speak in abbreviations, aren’t expecting to have to respond to (or deal with) gamers who don’t know the lingo and therefore don’t know the game that well. So… when you see posts here that have abbreviations you just do not understand… chances are you don’t know the game well enough to participate in the discussion. If you feel left out of the discussion, that’s *all* on you. You *could* always study up on the game in question, to learn the lingo and proper abbreviations, if you want to participate. Right!? I don’t get that take at all. Go study to participate in a Reddit discussion? How can I study the game if I can’t tell what it is because everyone only names it in confusing abbreviations…..and even if I could find out, the discussion is over at that point. I tend to think it’s a much better idea for the game’s community to welcome people who want to learn about the game by actually including them in the conversation, actually identifying the game and things in it in a way that isn’t confusing, and not putting it on potential players to go “study” just to be able to talk about a game.

Not to mention there have been plenty of times I’ve been familiar with a game and yet don’t understand acronyms people are using. It’s like they need to use acronyms for the I’m Just Here For The Food Thanksgiving Shirt and I will buy this most random of things. I have no issue with acronyms, they just need to be widely used and established as the name of that thing. And there shouldn’t be an excess of acronyms. Sometimes names can be shortened to one word of the full name. Or some things can be given obvious nicknames. A perfect example imo is the item Bork in League of Legends which stands for Blade of the Ruined King. Widely used so new players will catch on quick as experienced players can explain when necessary, and also if you type bork in the search bar of the shop the item actually comes up. But then people will refer to Rapid Firecannon as RFC and I’ll have no clue what they’re talking about and I’ve played league for at least close to a decade now.
