Lots of art and artists alike. A lot of outdoor activities. Some of the best hiking, fishing, and camping in the country, all within a 20 mile radius. It’s nestled in the Willamette Valley, with mountians on side and the coast on the other side. Great food and breweries. Tons of festivals nearby. Above average K-12 school system. Great university. Low crime. A decent nightlife scene. Virtually no traffic. No sales tax. People aren’t as politically pretentous as they are in Portland. There are a large amount of surrounding towns that are considered “country”. Small towns with smalltown people. I grew up there, so naturally I wanted out. But there is really no reason to leave. I can see myself going back home to raise a family one day.

Fairhope Alabama was dope as hell and I had never heard of it until I visited it last week. It’s seaside, with beautiful plantation style houses but somehow felt hip to me. Minimal traffic is a huge plus too. 1.5 hours to Santa Barbara or Big Sur. 3 hours to LA/Bay Area/Yosemite. 5-6 hours from San Diego or Joshua Tree if you want to make a longer trip.
