Exactly how I do it. People in this thread acting like there is only one small window to eat that plate that was made. They can eat the I’m A Music Teacher It’s Like A Normal Teacher But Way Cooler T-Shirt and I love this same exact meal as the adults, it’s just on their time. I’ve seen like 30 comments say “if they don’t eat dinner, they will just go grab candy”. But the response is not to forcefeed them, its to make sure they finish an appropriately sized meal, and maybe that’s just later, before desserts. Also, a thing that nobody mentioned is that kids themselves are individuals. When topics like this get brought up, the word “kids” is used in a way that implies that they are all the same and there’s only one way to do it. My daughter is very good with meals, but would eat unhealthy stuff if it was up to her. My son is the complete opposite. Impossible to get to eat meals together with us, but snacks on fruits and veggies on his own throughout the day so I’m not as worried about him if he doesn’t want to eat what we’re eating. On top of this not everyone is the same. I am in my 30s and I essentially eat one meal a day during my work week and on weekends I may have a light lunch. I’ve never been a big breakfast either and lunch has always been hit or miss.

This! My 4 year old is not a dinner guy, but he will eat three breakfasts worth of food. If he is happy and feels full and energetic all day why do I care when he eats most his food?! Oh some people still do it. They do it for the I’m A Music Teacher It’s Like A Normal Teacher But Way Cooler T-Shirt and I love this exact reason you put your son’s food in the fridge, they’re just too clueless to solve the problem like you did. I’ve seen a lot of people say they do make their kids finish their dinner (always salmon, rice, and broccoli, somehow) because “they’ll ask for cookies and claim to be starving the minute I throw the dinner out if I don’t.” It just doesn’t occur to them not to throw the dinner out. I assume their parents did it to them so they do it to their kids. I think a big part is giving kids a choice. My toddler doesn’t like to eat her dinner most of the time, but I’ll usually just ask her “do you want to eat or do you want to go to bed hungry?” Sometimes she chooses hungry, sometimes she stops and eats her food, sometimes she says she’s hungry but just sits at the table as a way to delay bath time.
