Also if your friends mock you they aren’t your friends. I was born in northern state but my family is Malayali family. I resented speaking Malayalam when I was kid because, I was mocked by relatives and and their kids, cousins when I went to Kerala. This made me so angry that I started hating the language itself and when offered I voluntarily skipped learning the basics of Malayalam.

I shouldn’t have hated the culture or the language. I started trying to speak more at my home, with relatives etc. with the broken, funny and inaccurate Malayalam. Sure I was mocked and belittled by my relatives etc. by my parents helped me out and were proud that I was at least trying to do the thing that I was avoiding. Even now I don’t think I am good. I still cannot read or write but I can at least have a basic conversation with any native and they won’t know it easily that I suck at Malayalam. I still haven’t found my place of belonging. I am for sure it isn’t the state I was born in or Kerala. I hope you find yours. As a non resident I was in two states for education, I didn’t know the local language of and broken hindi to begin with, I faced the same, first two years in the first place I got ragged like you’d not imagine in a hostel, but it was a learning experience, they chatted their shit and I clapped back in English lol. You’re taking this way too seriously, I was 16 at the time with no family or friends to help me out mind you. If you’re gonna have that weak mentality and blame situations and environments instead of adapting, it just states that you lack basic survival skills, if that’s the case, go back. No two ways to put it. Those who ridicule you on the basis of how you speak don’t deserve your time and especially aren’t worth resenting your parents over.
