It has done more harm than good, and honestly I truly believe that Reddit has been the biggest contributor to this divide. I disagree that we’re polarized, honestly. We just have a large chunk of the country descending into fascism with glee, and that makes the rest of us look very different. The democratic party is much more conservative than it was 50 yrs ago. Could Jimmy Carter win primary election at this point? Hell no. Politics has always been extremely polarizing. Political assassination was the order of the day in the early 20th century. The day JFK was assassinated the Dallas newspaper had a full page ad of him in cross hairs. Social media just gives every Tom dick and Harry a platform to air their politics so you hear about it more. Also the two party system foments discord and propagates an us vs them mentality. George Washington and several other couth politicians warned against a two party system yet here we are…………. Media headlines and even “unbiased sources” have their own biases and have a way of saying “you’re either with us or against us”
