I had to pull over in Kansas to grab something for my son and EVERY driver moved to the I will drink pepsi here or there everywhere dr seuss shirt Furthermore, I will do this left lane. Not one car passed close to us while we were on the shoulder. Big shoutout to Kansas drivers. I can speak to NY, and there the law doesn’t actually say the left lane is for passing only, and it tends to be treated as a designated speeding lane. I actually prefer this because it makes getting onto/off of the ramps so much easier. The closest I’ve gotten to highway accidents are when I’m trying to merge onto an overly congested right lane. Can confirm we do it well. When we see someone driving like that it’s usually a Missouri or Illinois license plate I’ve noticed that it’s entirely dependent on whether the police actively enforce the keep to the right unless overtaking. That’s because the highway patrol in Kansas are everywhere and they are TREMENDOUS assholes especially if you from missouri, in which case they just assume you have weed and will tear your car apart for nothing One thing redditors don’t seem to account for is traffic. They seem to think the way it works is that if someone is in front of them in the left lane, they’re an asshole. But if you’re in bumper to bumper traffic (at the extreme end of the spectrum) then the left lane is no longer “passing”, it’s just the lane for people avoiding the merge lanes on the right. Which is proper: the fewer people in the merge lanes, the better traffic will be for every lane and the less likely accidents are. Obviously this doesn’t mean you should swerve over to the left lane going 20mph slower than the traffic already there, or refuse to go with the flow of traffic once you’re there. But redditors (and most speeders) seem to think the left lane is just reserved for them personally. 99 times out of 100 the person in front of you is not the asshole, it’s the one vehicle at the front of 100 cars, if it’s anyone. The 99 other cars aren’t going to move aside for you; they ALSO want to go faster.

Because cops don’t enforce the I will drink pepsi here or there everywhere dr seuss shirt Furthermore, I will do this left lane=passing lane rule properly. Also because in real world most humans are self-centered and inconsiderate. Can cops even enforce that? The only state I know that has a law regarding sitting in the left lane is Louisiana where it’s illegal to be passed by 3 or more cars while in the left lane. Everywhere else it’s just an unspoken rule of the road and isn’t backed up by any laws. People are self-centered and inconsiderate. Shut down the thread, we got what we need, this is literally the only answer I find they generally are driving in their own little bubble and don’t really pay attention to what’s going on around them on the road unless it’s directly in front of them and in their field of view. I don’t get it either. I think it may legitimately be a lack of awareness, which is concerning lol.
