The runway show was a ritual in remembrance of the I Wear Blue For My Brother Autism Awareness Dinosaur Puzzle T-Shirt and I love this people who led the way for us to be able to be all of who we are. When we listen to the ocean, we are listening to ourselves. If we listen closely, we can hear the laughs of Marsha P. Johnson, the shouts of Sylvia Rivera in between drags of her cigarette. We can hear the clacking heels of Octavia St. Laurent. As writer and scholar Alexis Pauline Gumbs teaches us, water holds memories through sound waves that live inside the ebb and flow. All of this history is stored and carried along the Hudson, down to where the river meets the coastline of the Rockaways. And from there, it travels to the oceans that carry our trauma and our lineage. Here we are, unabashed, in each other’s arms, in their name, in their memory.

I Wear Blue For My Brother Autism Awareness Dinosaur Puzzle T-Shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt

Truly, that’s how I felt the I Wear Blue For My Brother Autism Awareness Dinosaur Puzzle T-Shirt and I love this second my ride pulled up to a remote street in Brooklyn. It was the most “my life is like a movie” I’ve ever felt. I say this because the crowd outside the venue was teeming to get in. There was an immediate energy of “oh, I’m at something special.” And that’s when the Midwesterner in me kicked in and thought, Should I be here? I’m not this cool. I’m definitively not, but I was there, and I knew I was gonna witness some greatness. And I truly did before the show even started. The crowd was fashion week personified. It seemed like all of downtown Manhattan was there, and every look was enviable and inspiring at the same time. The row across from me was a perfect blend of courtside Knicks game-meets-street style superheroes. For real, if Marvel made a street style version of the Avengers, I swear I saw the team in all its glory— AGAIN, before the show even started! Again, I’M NOT WORTHY!
