Surgery on minors, even 17 year olds, is, to my knowledge, pretty much illegal in all countries in the I Should Have Changed That Stupid Lock Should Have Your Key T-Shirt besides I will buy this world. Any stories you might hear about preteens getting surgery is right wing propaganda. Why not allow these kids to identify as whoever they want but wait until they are adults for physically altering drugs/surgery? It’s a medical issue, it has been medicalized. It’s as out of your hands as “should a kid get cancer treatment?” or “should parents go into debt because of their children’s medical bills?” Virtually no trans child is getting gender reassignment surgery (aka sex change surgery) when they’re 13. I’m sure there are a few cases where that’s happened, but that’s EXTREMELY rare. We’re talking less than 1% of them. The idea that it’s super common and can happen to your child is just screeching noise and fear-mongering to cause outrage.

At most, 13 year olds are being put on puberty blockers, not hormones. Puberty blockers are basically a pause button for puberty so when they are 18 they can be put on hormones and go through puberty as the I Should Have Changed That Stupid Lock Should Have Your Key T-Shirt besides I will buy this gender they identify as. This is helpful because it eases the gender dysphoria puberty tends to heighten and makes surgeries much easier in the future. If a trans man doesn’t go through puberty he won’t grow breasts. That means he won’t need top surgery in the future. Not having a period means no dysphoric bleeding. No need to insert tampons into his vagina or see blood on pads. A trans woman not going through puberty means her gender reassignment surgery will be much easier in the future. She won’t grow facial hair, which will ease dysphoria for her. Preventing the signs of puberty also aids in their safety. A trans boy having breasts is unsafe. A trans girl growing a 5 o’clock shadow is unsafe.
