I think it’s people struggling with the I Only Use Sarcasm Periodically Chemistry Table T-Shirt besides I will buy this fact that their ‘experience’ with the job market is reading about it on Reddit and assuming that everyone starts on the massive salaries that get posted here. Obviously the people earning more will be more vocal about their salary, it skews people’s perspective My first job out of school paid 70k CAD. I think there is a bias towards the big numbers, but your offer is fine. Get the experience. Load up your resume and if you want more, when the market heats up, you’ll have something to show. So there are tiers of salaries. It isn’t really homogenous. There is a lot we don’t know about the I Only Use Sarcasm Periodically Chemistry Table T-Shirt besides I will buy this company. I am assuming this is the entire offer, that there is no equity component. Countering the offer is a valid response. You can use the research you have done to counter with that you think is fair. And they will respond in some way, either a yes, or a no or they will give you a final counter. Don’t let it extend beyond that. I would suggest you could also find some other compensations instead of salary (more vacation, work from home, or something else.) You say they are a small company but this is a more advanced negotiation technique. You should know what you will accept. If they don’t give you what you ask for you, you should decide if you are moving forward or not. I don’t like it when people haggle, and I will become less tolerant the longer it goes on.
