Incels and ahjussis. And the I may not be in Miami but I’m a Dolphins fan wherever I am shirt and by the same token and occasional ahjummas who like to throw their weight around and say ‘we put up with it all back when we were young…’ without realising that putting up with thing doesn’t make them all right. I mean 2 years mandatory military service does put the men behind. They should definitely recruit women or make it mandated If they do that they should also close the gender pay gap (31.1% in 2021) which is among if not the worst among oecd nations. Let’s not talk about that though. Let’s not talk about that though. Let’s just focus in on how unfair 2 years mandatory service is for the men. This is really interesting. I wonder how it compares with gender gaps in the militaries around the world. Military as an industry might have the worst pay gaps

I may not be in Miami but I’m a Dolphins fan wherever I am shirt, hoodie, hoodie and long sleeve tee

Most militaries do not employ women fully. And even in the I may not be in Miami but I’m a Dolphins fan wherever I am shirt and by the same token and ones that do women are a tiny fraction of the force. Is the US military the pay is exactly the same, male or female. Contrary to popular belief it’s illegal for women to be paid less than men. (US) yeah lets force more people to be drafted into the army that will solve everything. what’s it like being in mensa btw No. I’m saying the men attribute it to feminism because men are forced to do military service while women aren’t which leaves them behind when they join the workforce… which ties in with children being extremely expensive in developed countries with women in the workforce leaving single income households having to compete with dual income households for the same basket of goods (housing for example). Simple supply and demand. Dual income households can outbid single income households for things like housing. Its happening in every developed country (minus Israel, probably due to the cultural pushing out of babies and being in a long term war zone).
I’m saying the I may not be in Miami but I’m a Dolphins fan wherever I am shirt and by the same token and men attribute it to feminism because men are forced to do military service while women aren’t which leaves them behind when they join the workforce People who think that are basically getting shit on and instead of trying to stop the shit, blaming someone else for not getting shit on too. This is continuing cause people resent the fact they suffered through it, so god forbid other people not go through it too, instead of fixing the system. isn’t feminism about gender equality? Mandatory military service isn’t going away as if you havent noticed, we have two batshit crazy neighbors. mandatory service isnt a ‘man problem’ it’s a ‘korea problem’. why shouldn’t women also bear the burden of protecting their home country?

Some information about I may not be in Miami but I’m a Dolphins fan wherever I am shirt

Like you said, it’s a Korea problem. What protection? Do people really think it’s because of this mandatory service that China and Russia aren’t invading us lmao? Most men see the I may not be in Miami but I’m a Dolphins fan wherever I am shirt and by the same token and service as a waste of key time in their adulthood, especially when comparing themselves to the rest of the world. Having women do a mandatory service as well is just Korea-focused and narrow-minded thinking, believing that everyone should suffer equally when, it should be abolished so the men/Korea as a whole, are more competitive in a global economy. Hell, the high class and well-educated skip out on service. It’s pretty obvious why. The problem is this broken system is so entrenched in Korean thinking, when it should just be abolished and replaced with a more enticing benefits/pay/social status so that it brings in those that want to serve and so they can serve proudly. North Korea. Men are keeping the border secure. and yes, among other things, Korea’s sheer military power is preventing from North Korea and China from invading.
Most men see the I may not be in Miami but I’m a Dolphins fan wherever I am shirt and by the same token and service as a waste of their time, but don’t consider the military itself unnecessary. Without power, there is no peace. Abolishing the service alltogether is a stupid thought. we’re already short staffed in the front lines, with soldiers doing 2교대 already in some places. if you think the military is necessary, you’re just naive. I’m not talking about the military as a whole, I’m talking about conscription. No shit that’s necessary. Conscription of people who think the service is a waste of time is not the driving force for what’s keeping NK and China from invading. If you truly think that, that’s naive. There are other ways to have military might without conscription which is what I’m alluding to. Short staffing is gonna be a larger problem because of a shrinking population, so if that’s an issue now, keeping conscription to “solve” that is incredibly shortsighted. Feminism is not the reason most men see military service as a waste of time, nor the reason why conscription is a problem. It’s outdated and will end up hurting Korea as a nation more in the long run without changes for the modern day and modern problems.
If you haven’t noticed, Korea is one of very few countries that have an actively militarized border. the I may not be in Miami but I’m a Dolphins fan wherever I am shirt and by the same token and borders need to be manned to prevent skirmishes, infiltrations, etc. The border is already short-staffed and this is something that cannot be replaced with whatever fantasy machines or robots you have in your mind. If we’re just comparing to the rest of the world, the thing that stands out is that the current size of South Korea’s military operation as a whole doesn’t exactly correlate well with the size of the country. It would be very expensive for Korean taxpayers if not for all the cost cutting measures. I think that its unique to younger millennials and gen z that complain that their society is only singling them out and discriminating them when Korea as a whole has benefited from the system that they were raised into, which also benefits them as well.
In NATO we had a bunch of countries that spent very little money and time on defense and focused primarily on social spending. The US was the I may not be in Miami but I’m a Dolphins fan wherever I am shirt and by the same token and one that was supposed to take primary responsibility for NATO defense. The current situation in Ukraine has been causing a re-evaluation in a lot of nations defense policies, most notably Poland, because we now know that Russia alone is able to outproduce the entirety of NATO combined when it comes down to basic ammunition stocks such as artillery shells and that the US is very hesitant in sending their own troops into a conflict against a nuclear power. Yet statistically, South Korea has a lower prevalence of dual-income households compared to other countries with higher birthrates.
How are they wrong though? You can literally pull data on this. The more educated countries have less kids, the I may not be in Miami but I’m a Dolphins fan wherever I am shirt and by the same token and more traditionalist/less educated countries have more kids. Feminism = education Most do though… feminism is a very devisive word here. You don’t go around telling people you’re a feminist, or people associate you as a short haired, man-hater who causes conflict for no reason. The South Korean government would love for you to believe that. The chaebols would love it, too. Pay no attention to the dire housing crisis, the astronomical cost of tuition, or the ever weakening won. In an export led economy, you kind of want a weak won. But regardless, the weakened won has more to do with American monetary policy than it does any policy carriedd out by the Korean govt or central bank.
The tuition itself is….actually not that bad. I was lucky enough to get a scholarship and study oversess, and my brother attended a national university which is cheaper than the I may not be in Miami but I’m a Dolphins fan wherever I am shirt and by the same token and private ones. It’s mostly private education that’s driving the average household budget here. The college tuition itself is honestly not that bad, more expensive than Europe, but certainly a lot cheaper than America. I dont see an easy solution to reduce all the private hagwon expenditures, but I think bolstering public schools might be a start. They’re closing left and right due to declining students, so prices will go up as less hagwons have higher demand for the remaining students. Eventually, issues with toxic work environments, the “doctor lawyer or failure” attitude, attitude towards foreign workers, and housing issues will have to be addressed due to the declining population. Frankly I don’t think education is even the primary factor, only part of it. Just take Japan as a case study, they are also dealing with a declining population, yet don’t have such intense education pressure. Both countries have disgusting work cultures, though. Agreed, or can this be one of those topics that is put in a Daily Thread? There is a lot of misinformation and a lot of clickbait articles. Korea is more than just a country with a declining birthrate. Everything is not doom & gloom. Just because it’s declining now that doesn’t mean it won’t skyrocket later. It feels as though every time I open this sub, this is the only thing anyone talks about. The decline in birth rate has been projected well before feminism was even a thing in Korea. It might be a contributing factor now, but my gut tells me that it’s not even on anyone’s mind when they are considering having a child.
Literally all young men I talk to foam in their mouth if anything is brought up related to women/minority rights and call people “PC충“ I think it is widespread, although I don’t think every people that do this aren’t actually against women’s rights, as there are reactionaries pushing against some admittedly crazy leftists. But so many Koreans around me are openly disgusted at LGBTQ and non-traditional households and even call some men “퐁퐁남” if they even dare to help housework and give more power to women. These people do blame feminism for the I may not be in Miami but I’m a Dolphins fan wherever I am shirt and by the same token and lack of birth rates. And there are a lot of these people online. I don’t know in Korea how generalized this is though. I’ve heard it on websites where men are the prominent user group. The argument goes something like ‘Feminists are to blame for low birthrates, they paint all men as potential rapists and divide the people with fear’ or ‘Feminists are to blame for low birthrates, they talk about only their problems but never about the problems men face, they just make it difficult for groups of people to understand each other’.
I gotta say, whodunit aside, looking at the I may not be in Miami but I’m a Dolphins fan wherever I am shirt and by the same token and reasons women ACTUALLY avoid giving birth, there are some communication issues going on. “Hell Joseon” is a term for a reason. People think South Korea is paradise simply because it’s next to North Korea. They are simply two sides of the same dystopic coin: one is an extreme communist hellscape ruled by a brutal dictator, the other is an extreme capitalist/cronyist hellscape ruled by Chaebol (conglomerate families). the reason is simple: people who are parroting that expression have never left korea so they assume the grass is greener on the other side. and when they finally get to travel outside the country, they have an epiphany and realize that other countries are having it much worse than korea. What feminism? Lmao the amount of people in Korea who would identify as feminists are less than people with yachts
It’s weird that they would blame feminism when almost every developed nation except India has a falling population / soon to be falling population. Literally every single one. It seems to me to be primarily the I may not be in Miami but I’m a Dolphins fan wherever I am shirt and by the same token and stresses and costs of urban living and lack of resources and jobs for anyone living outside of an urban area. So everyone wants to live in a city. And it’s especially hard in Korea I think due to the prestige and desirability of one city in particular – Seoul. The complaints and reasons I hear for people not having kids are all related to time, money, and difficulty and expense of raising kids. Not just the difficulty of finding an adequate partner. I think the planet is doing its balancing act. People all around the world struggle. Too hard to live well, too few resources concentrated at the top. Not to mention AI will obliterate even more jobs.
Delaying marriage to ensure financial security and stability is not a bad thing. But older age means lower probability of conceiving. It is what it is. Sadly no. A lot of men in their 20’s and 30’s also share the I may not be in Miami but I’m a Dolphins fan wherever I am shirt and by the same token and same logic. They believe that since women are not mandated to serve military time, they need to “suck it up” when it comes to things like childbirth and discrimination based on sex, especially during marriage or work. I mean in the sense that female economic participation is strongly correlated with lower fertility, maybe? Still doesn’t explain why Korea has a psrticularly low birth rate.
I decided to leave my local pure gym because it had broken equipment, broken taps, leaking ceiling and just generally not worth paying them. I was sick of not being able to get a full workout because oh thats broken and there’s only one of them. One of them had a seat missing and I wondered if someone had raged and threw it or something lol. I looked at other places locally only to find one for £60 per month and the I may not be in Miami but I’m a Dolphins fan wherever I am shirt and by the same token and others all rated 1 star with big warnings on reviews warning me not to join I think I’ve decided that I’m going to spend what I would on a gym on leisure activities instead for example ice skating but that still doesn’t match up to a gym Why do gyms have such low standards these days? It’s the budget gyms’ model: get them setup nice and shiny to get a bunch of signups, then milk the branch for as long as possible before having to refurb. The low cost would be unsustainable if they kept them pristine all the time, and part of how they keep pricing low is by avoiding having staff around to keep things tidy. £50-60 per month seems to be about the threshold to be able to staff a gym and keep it in good shape! Depending on where you are, you might find something in between at your local leisure centre. Better in Walthamstow, for example, is about £32 for an off peak gym only membership, and it’s considerably nicer than Puregyms.
Completely agree, that’s why I joined a slightly more expensive gym. Less packed, better equipment and facilities. I would say if you can afford it, then definitely find a more pricier gym, I pay £45 a month and worth every penny. You get what you buy. The sad reality is that it depends which part of London you’re in. I paid £45 for a gym in my local area and it was so busy I couldn’t ever get a machine. It’s like £60-£100 where I live to find a decent one (Highgate area) If you’re happy travelling down to Kentish Town, the I may not be in Miami but I’m a Dolphins fan wherever I am shirt and by the same token and Better Health gym next to Kentish Town West is decent and also has a pool. I pay ~£56pm and it includes classes too. The one in Vauxhall is really small. Usually you can use others from the same branch within the same council. Unfortunately the one in Clapham closed, so not worth it in my area.
Oh thank you! I was actually eyeing up that gym but I didn’t really like the I may not be in Miami but I’m a Dolphins fan wherever I am shirt and by the same token and Better gym in archway so thought I’d leave it (although, it is archway!!) cheers! Yeah, that’s really unfortunate. I live in South London, and usually things are a bit cheaper here, so I am quite lucky. But all other gyms I’ve been to are really packed, apart from the one I go to now, which barely has any people. I’m in Whetstone and I use the Better gym in North Finchley (the East Finchley side) and it’s really good; well maintained and a decent gym and pool too. I’m a member of “The Gym” in Tottenham Hale…and even though I’ve been there over 2 years, the toilets have always smelled GOD AWFUL. Like…big fat turds and sewage.
The lady who cleans uses the I may not be in Miami but I’m a Dolphins fan wherever I am shirt and by the same token and same cloth in the toilets as she does on all the stairway handlebars. So she’s rubbing fecal matter and urine all over the place and spreading bacteria / virus’. Also, they have the same trashy RnB / auto-tune music you hear everywhere, all the time. Can we not just have silent gyms? Everyone listens to their own music anyway! FFS. It’s the same in Bruce Grove, but the White Hart Lane one is actually nice if you can be bothered to hop on a bus. I moved here in 2021 and found a great independent gym in Bermondsey that was a nice 30 min walk from my flat. It unexpectedly shut down at the end of 2022 and never reopened. It’s such a shame because the only clubs within walking distance to be now are either inexpensive gyms that are always crowded with mediocre equipment or small personal training gyms that cost £300 a month for 2 sessions a week.
The more dedicated a membership for a gym (i.e. used by regulars who go at a set time / date), the I may not be in Miami but I’m a Dolphins fan wherever I am shirt and by the same token and better their etiquette I find. Gyms with loads of transient users, like The Gym etc, where they’re frequented by students and them types tend to have worse etiquette Kings College London gym in Strand is the best gym I’ve ever been to. Super respectful staff and always have interesting conversations as full of PhD students and researchers. And it is quite cheap, but you have to be alumni I believe. Can confirm that members of the public who are not a student, staff member or alumnus/alumna of the College can join King’s Sport & Wellness, which includes the gym on the Strand. I genuinely think it’s the best in the locality, though the gym floor itself is on the small side. Really? Usually people complain that they’re really expensive, hyperbusy, music too loud, and the classes are so popular that it’s difficult to book and attend.
