That dude worked at one of the local Mexican restaurants and would have all the kids working waaaay longer hours than they were legally allowed to, then would ply them with drugs and hardcore pressure them to drop out of high school as soon as they turned 16. Super fucked up, but since they were basically non-persons here (and usually didn’t have any actual family in the area) it was super easy to exploit them. Pretty sure that’s the definition of human trafficking – like even though it wasn’t sexual (which is of course a common connotation), moving people for the purpose of exploiting their labor. And these were youuung kids, some less than 10 years old. But it was safer than the alternative. Beyond fucked up

The busser is given 20% of anything if he’s working, after that, the rest automatically goes on our paycheck (minus taxes, etc.)
