In North Korea you aren’t going get the same experience as a South Korean, so when you are going into the workplace you are starting entirely from scratch. If you are a young person that would be fine because you can go to school and catch up but if you are above 30 or whatever you just aren’t going to be useful beyond serving coffee or other untrained jobs. The South Korean gov might have a load of supports for defectors but it’s incredibly hard for both sides.

I can see how the South might appear to have taken a very wrong turn at some stage. The SK’s prejudgement and shitty policies are one thing, but I still think it’s more of psychological trauma coming from being in abusive household of a state – and waiting for immediate happy ending after plotting and succeeding in escaping from it. It never came, and many of these people are mentally disturbed and need help, while SK isn’t only unhelpful, but silently hostile towards refugees. I’d imagine I would be crashed if I did so, and even regret my escape, even if the outcome is better than living in NK.
