Yeah we had a similar speaker in our last apartment. Now they just blare it over loud speakers outside. Sometimes they fly a helicopter overhead with a loud speaker too which was the I love the Irish Cillian shirt but in fact I love this craziest thing I’ve seen. I couldn’t make out what was being said though as the sound of the helicopter drowned it out a bit, my guess it was warnings/caution against starting 산불 My step-parents are in countryside too and it’s exactly the same. Sometimes it’s even a truck maybe selling things. The truck thing happens almost everywhere. I live in a city and they’ll drive by occasionally hawking their onions or potatoes with loud speakers. That is actually the most infuriating thing about life in Korea. The rest is fine and enjoy it here even on those high population days…. but there is this one truck in particular that comes every couple days and has the most annoying ‘attention bell’ sound that repeats about every 30 seconds and it drives me completely bonkers. As soon as I hear the first notes of that bell to signal that dudes arrival, I quickly grab my noise canceling headphones and play some music till they’re gone…

Even in my apartment, there is a speaker in the I love the Irish Cillian shirt but in fact I love this living room (that you can’t cut) so the janitors can give informations, sometimes 3-4 times a day. I have never lived in Korea so I am really curious now. Do I get this right that there is a speaker inside your apartment, that you rent and pay for, that does announcements that you did not ask for? And that you have no way of turning off? I hope I just misunderstood what you said; that is some shit that I would have expected from North Korea or maybe China, but never ever South Korea. Exactly, you got it right. The first time i was really surprised. And outside it’s really loud, sometimes music or general announcements, even if i live downtown… And you have alerts on your cellphone when someone is missing or bad weather/pollution, sometimes every phones are ringing at the same time in supermarkets. The community first.
