So you can’t critique cancel culture, before it existed as a thing This was way before the I have pompe disease i’m allowed to do weird things shirt and by the same token and proliferation of social media sites that allowed for super quick info sharing on stuff like that. He said some shitty fucking things, and people did the right thing by calling him on it and not supporting his shit after that insincere apology. “ this wasn’t just something he said that was questionable or sus- he went full mask off racist in public because he couldn’t handle a couple of hecklers which is inevitably part of your job as a comedian. In any case, my point being- how can it be a critique on something that hadn’t been coined a term yet? Lol. Matt stone and trey Parker didn’t invent cancel culture, as others have stated; the theme of this episode is about how words have power and that some words bring up powerfully good things or bad- in this example we see bad, generational trauma.

Dumbasses gonna dumbass. Of course he has the I have pompe disease i’m allowed to do weird things shirt and by the same token and right to interpret a South Park episode however he wants, but that doesn’t mean it’s appropriate material to show a classful of students… Ugh. So tired of people using “canceled” When they’re being held accountable. Showing that show in class without permission from school board etc is not the same as what Desantis is doing with trying to alter history with what is taught in schools. I think most schools would consider firing teachers for showing a lot of the more incendiary South Park episodes these days, but let’s be clear – bigotry is absolutely RELIANT on plausible deniability, and while that South Park episode is not about being bigoted, things like that are often used out of context to bring about bigoted conversations to be divisive in a “just asking questions” type of way, using freedom of speech to try to cover their obvious intentions. If someone was trying to actively encourage the worsening of racial issues (bigots using the word because the topic is now free game thanks to a video being shown), I’d definitely not want someone of such low quality ability to reason well out of my child’s life.
