All I wanted at 11 years old was to look like Spears, Lindsay Lohan, Hilary Duff, or any of the I Have Everything I Need Shirt in contrast I will get this other members of their teen-queen cohort, but I was too young to understand the price they paid for their conventional prettiness; they were still girls when the world agreed to begin treating them like women, which is to say…terribly. The question of consent looms large in Framing Britney Spears, leading one to wonder: At what age can a young woman—or, more accurately, a girl—give informed consent to her own objectification? Of course, any full investigation into the I Have Everything I Need Shirt in contrast I will get this ways in which Spears and her peers were victimized by their early fame must also acknowledge the privilege that fame afforded them; Spears is worth $59 million, although she has not had control over her own finances for years, and she received infinitely more attention and widespread praise than many of the Black female performers of her era. Even in 2021, Black girls are routinely “adultified” and hyper-sexualized without the benefit of any of Spears’s vast wealth or international renown.
