By the time you get to an N-95, pretty much all of the air you breath is channeling through the gaps around your nose and the unsealed perimeter of the mask. It’s fluid dynamics 101, chapter1, page 1 – fluids in motion take the path of least resistance. Countries and areas of the US where masking was never mandated do not show statistically significant rates of infection in the aggregate that are higher as compared to areas with the most stringent mask mandates (At varying points-in-time any given area can be shown to have higher infection rates than another, but in the long run evidence shows that it can’t be attributed to masking or the lack thereof). Masking is, and always was, pointless with regard to preventing the spread of the tiny viral material of the target virus. Masks are “Personal Protective Equipment”. They prevent the wearer from pathogens carried by things like mucus, blood and spittle from surgical and trauma patients. That is their intent, and their purpose. Obviously this translates in part to containing sneezes and coughs of the wearer, but in very small part (no better than sneezing into your sleeve). That doesn’t mean people in hospitals, elder care facilities, etc. shouldn’t do their best to keep patients and the elderly healthy. But grocery stores? Restaurants? Walking alone outside? Driving alone? No.

I won’t be. I’m one of those weird people that doesn’t go into public when sick and is used to covering their cough and washing their hands. Absolutely not. Haven’t worn one in well over a year. I take care of myself, eat healthy, work out, overall I’d consider myself a pretty healthy person. My thoughts are the CDC should provide all the information straight and I can make up my mind on how to respond. I did a few weeks into the mandate being lifted in my country. But then I attended the local comic con, and being among so many people for so long kind of defeated the purpose, so I stopped afterwards. I also have two doses of Comirnaty, and got the disease around the time when I was supposed to get the third one.
