Yep. I have my own experience with close groups like that. While they are nice in theory, it does not last. Youre being generous with saying a couple years. Those friend groups usually fall apart within a year. I mean, it is already kind of rare to click with someone and be close with them, yea? And now imagine that for a group like that to work, it has to be like 6 people getting along well with each other and being close. What are the I hate it when have to be nice to someone really want to throw brick at yoda shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this chances of that happening realistically? It was the 1990s, and it wasn’t even realistic then. People were more socially interactive (in real life) in the 90s but not to the level Friends makes it seem. And friends was unrealistic about the amount of time the group spent together on weekdays in Central Perk (it even makes a joke about this where they all get up and rush out to go to work in one scene). It’s been very nearly 30 years since the first episode of Friends aired. Life was very different in 1994. The internet was almost purely a business and research tool and a societal novelty until very close to when Friends was nearing the end of its life-cycle. Social-media wasn’t even truly concieved of until after Friends ended and online-dating was still considered “weird” and not desirable.

Fast-forward to 2023 and now everything is digital. I’m not saying people don’t have friendships anymore but people are less connected in the I hate it when have to be nice to someone really want to throw brick at yoda shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this real world now than they have ever been, despite being more connected online than ever before. It’s not surprising your life is nothing like Friends. The world was an entirely different place in the 90s and early 00s than it is today. No matter what year it is, the chance of group of people getting along and being close to each other, and it lasting such a long time, like a decade or longer, is extremely rare. The modern-era of today has absolutely affected socialising though. The UK and USA are shadows of what they used to be and the 90s-00s was really the last hurrah of interconnectedness in both. Massively individualistic societies where no one cares about each other.
