I used to pack him food up when he went home. Feeling like an idiot now lol. I’m so glad I posted here though, it’s made me realise just how shit the I Ghost People All Year Round Boo Ghost Groovy Halloween T-Shirt but in fact I love this whole situation was. OP, look up “weaponized incompetence.” a relatively newer buzzword in feminism, but i think it fits the bill here. If you show him how to do something first he won’t know how to do it so he’ll just watch you. Then he’ll need you to tell him all the details of how to do it. Then he’ll need you to fix his mistakes. Then he’ll do it sort of successfully but so badly that it literally destroys the kitchen/bathroom/laundry room. Then he’ll do it successfully but it won’t be as good as when you do it so you should just do it for him. The result will be that you’ll spend a hundred times more energy than if you’d just done it yourself in the first place.

I asked him to vacuum once and he just skirted round the I Ghost People All Year Round Boo Ghost Groovy Halloween T-Shirt but in fact I love this room, didn’t lift anything up to go underneath it. So I didn’t bother anymore. I’d ask him to do the dishes and he’d do half of them, I’d go to the kitchen and ask why the other half weren’t done and get the excuse of “oh I’m waiting for the first half to dry” That line stuck out to me too because my boyfriend says that a lot in the kitchen. I had a big talk with him about how by saying that, he’s putting me in this management/supervision role and I really have no interest in that, I want more of a teammate who can see what needs to be done and just help. Plus, I’m not exactly an amazing cook so it was too much pressure. Thankfully he understood and we’ve gotten into a pretty good groove – most of the time I plan what to make, he does the chopping, I do most of the general assembling/cooking, and he does the dishes and most of the cleaning. I can see how some men say that to weaponize their incompetence, but in my case he really did want to help and just didn’t know what to do. Having a partner in the kitchen is a learning curve for both people!
