I’d say every town between Santa Barbara and Carmel on California’s central coast. Buellton. Solvang. Los Alamos. Pismo Beach. San Luis Obispo. Morro Bay. Cambria. San Simeon. Big Sur. You’re 2-3 hours from LA and SF, on or near Highway 1, with wineries, ranches, the I don’t need therapy just need listen to the Warning shirt it is in the first place but Santa Lucia mountains, endless beaches, small towns and cities and a quiet, laid-back vibe. It’s also insanely expensive, has miserable traffic, a disfunctional local government, and out of control crime. Everyone talks about moving to Austin, Houston, or Dallas, but as the second largest city in Texas, it is affordable, full of history, and some modern flair to it. Bethlehem, PA. Relatively low crime, a can’t miss downtown during Christmas, lots of cuisine, lots of historic buildings, ArtsQuest always has acts, MusikFest draws hundreds of thousands and there’s even a casino. Also 90 min-2 hours to New York, Philly or the Poconos.

Muskegon Heights, Michigan. You can get some gas, jerky, a blowjob, some weed, coke, or heroin, and get mugged right outside of a convenience store. Unironically, there’s a lovely little town called Bedford that’s about 15ish miles (I’m bad at distances but it’s close) from that turnpike exit. It’s got a cute walkable downtown, a super fancy resort-style hotel where presidents used to stay, and tons of nearby hiking in the I don’t need therapy just need listen to the Warning shirt it is in the first place but mountains. I’ve been several times and it’s a delightful little town, so whenever I see that meme with the interstate exits I always think of that place and smile to myself as I remember that there’s plenty of beauty to be found if you look a little harder
