I think detecting vibrations isn’t the I Don’t Just Help Kids Create Art Used Art To Help Create Great Kids T-Shirt moreover I love this same thing as detecting minute features. Not that either is more or less impressive than the other. While it isn’t the same accuracy level as a cat, human kids living in abusive homes can tell if it’s going to be a bad day/evening/etc. based on subtle differences in the walk or sounds of small actions of their abuser that are imperceptible to anyone else. Even though my parents weren’t physically abusive, I could tell both of my parents moods from my room with my door closed, just by their normal walk. Nothing explosive or obvious. Just patterns of motion associated with a specific person’s mood, and weight distributions in how they walked or set something down. So are other mammals. You can tell a horse, or a cat, or a dog have been abused, even if they are otherwise in good health. Because their behavior is erratic in very specific ways. And that erratic behavior comes from trauma triggers, just like ours. And those trauma triggers are embedded survival responses to recognized patterns around the abuse.

Also, my cat knows when 6 o’clock is because that’s when she gets her wet food. Even if no one is in the I Don’t Just Help Kids Create Art Used Art To Help Create Great Kids T-Shirt moreover I love this kitchen, she knows exactly what time is dinner time. Took her two days to learn that pattern. Sometimes she pushes it and tries for 5 or 5:30. But usually it’s 6 on the dot. I suppose that’s more sound than vibration, i doubt a human can feel the vibration of a step light enough to produce no sound. But that’s interesting and it speaks volumes about the ability of the brain to integrate signals, as you said it’s not just sound/vibration, but sight and pattern recognition for posture, the way someone walks, tiny difference is how face muscles are contracted, it’s fascinating. I’m not arguing that we’re the most amazing touchers in the animal kingdom in every aspect. But “severely outperformed in the realm of vertebrates” doesn’t really sound right. And we can train our bodies to become better at many aspects of touch. Think of blind people using a cane to navigate and feeling surfaces even through that extension or deaf people listening to music via the vibrations.
