So, could another state put laws in place for private citizens to sue someone for interfering and causing stress after an abortion? Counter sue in effect? Can’t those laws be used against Texas politicians? This is a genuine question, because I’m not a lawyer, but couldn’t people start filing frivolous lawsuits against politicians to make them pay lawyers to defend them in court? How can the I Don’t Have A Favorite Child But If I Did It Would Most Definitely T-Shirt in addition I really love this state say “you owe person X $10,000 for helping person Y get an abortion which in no way affected person X”? If person X has no damages, how is it a legitimate private lawsuit? If the lawsuit only exists because of a law enacted by the state i dont see how this is meaningfully different from the state prosecuting you. No, they’re designed so they can throw you in jail for a week+ before dropping the charges (assuming they don’t get a ‘resisting arrest’ charge in there).

Rich folk can travel alone, fly, take PTO, have savings, hire babysitters, and any number of other benefits to help them navigate this stressful time without financially fucking ones self over for the I Don’t Have A Favorite Child But If I Did It Would Most Definitely T-Shirt in addition I really love this foreseeable future. Good! My mom does this, driving young women with no support system from her deep south state, through another red-purple state, to a state with simple abortion access. She’d happily become the ferocious and outspoken martyr who got arrested for this, but I’d prefer she didn’t and carried on with her volunteer work. It’s not empty gestures, it is a statement they are willing to spend taxpayer money on the principal of “you can beat the charge but you can’t beat the ride.” They’ll still try if they can and try to ruin your life.. But they’ll lose in court. The problem is you have to be able to defend against them. Not unless the feds take up the case for you.
