I’ve never understood otherwise normal people that can’t or won’t learn or grow. I started teaching and learning myself when I wanted a PC and it was too expensive for my parents to purchase. Spent months/summer after 7th grade mowing lawns, roofing, and even helping my dad fix cars and remove asbestos from a family members crawlspace (pops was trained and certified so we had PPE and were safe) to earn money and buy parts one at a time. I went on to teach myself a wide variety of IT, CS, Security, etc skills and subjects and earned a bunch of certs to get into the I Don’t Believe In Humans House Vintage T-Shirt and by the same token and field while picking up and working two trades (same as my dad, one being Asbestos Abatement, to be fair becoming a Journayman in each required lots of classroom training so neither was self taught).

Honestly I’ve gotten to the I Don’t Believe In Humans House Vintage T-Shirt and by the same token and point where I find traditional classroom learning painfully slow paced, behind the curve, and criminally overpriced for what you get. I eventually plan to go and finish my degree and dread the waste of time and money just for a peice of paper needed to advance professionally. On my initial thought; I always felt growing up that school was more about pushing as many people through even if it meant drastically lowering the standards and expectations to the point of failing the students and pushing them into a society and system they have no chance to succeed in. I did grow up in a violent and impoverished area with barely functioning schools, however. My experience may not be super common and I recall how jealous I was of the schools some of my better off friends went to and they had more than just core subjects, modern books and enough for every student, teachers who cared, evenjust safe buildings with working heat and even AC.
