I’m in Australia for the week, and just glad that the indictment was announced at a good time despite the time difference. This is a dumb question cause I work in criminal justice and read indictments all the time but mostly just cause I want to know what happened when I see more peculiar, uncommon (for my agency) or heinous charges. So now what happens? Will a warrant be issued? The indictment is sealed and will probably be until sometime next week. NY has already notified Trump’s attorney to surrender himself for arraignment. If he doesn’t surrender, then….well, we’ll see what happens. That makes sense. When I look in our court system at dockets and all that, there’s usually first an indictment when charges are filed, and at the end of giving the alleged facts/crimes that were committed, it asks the judge to issue a warrant and then the next document is typically the signed bench warrant from the judge. I’m not on the legal side so much, so I don’t know how it all works 100%. And like I said I’m usually only reading them for crazy charges like murder, etc. I mean, I was just working, not even thinking about His Orangeness, and Trump himself emailed me that he was indicted. (I’m on the mailing list because it keeps me astride of the crazy, and entertains me to no end that there is apparently a whole cross-section of this country who actually believes emails that start with “Karl, you are the number one patriot and President Trump has personally asked for your opinion in the fight against the Democratic evil being plagued upon him. Just give between $47 and $470…” It defies reality.)

And Trump’s lawyers also announced they received the indictment. That’s not accurate. The fact that the grand jury voted on the case is secret, and the indictment is sealed. None of this should be publicly known at this time. Someone leaked this info and violated the rules/laws on Grand Jury secrecy. Doesn’t affect the indictment at all, but whoever did it could be punished by the court for contempt or otherwise. True but usually in a situation like this it probably gets ignored. Could be a juror, a court reporter, anyone in the prosecutor’s office, the clerk’s office, or the chambers of the assigned judge.
