Forgiving student loan debts would only benefit people currently holding the debt, and would disadvantage everyone who has paid, or will later pay, student loans. That’s fine and all, but tell a middle class family who followed through on their obligations and lost 200K that they didn’t have to end up doing that. This is life changing money and you want them to just take it even though they did the right thing? Exhibit A why Democrats just don’t get it. You want to cancel student loan debts? Fine. But payback the families who paid off their loans. They’re perfectly ok with spending money on people who don’t follow the rules, they certainly can spend money on the people who do. 100% agree with you. My parents funded my bachelors degree but we grew up nothing more than middle class. My family only went on one vacation during my childhood, we ate out once or twice a year, drove older cars, didn’t play travel sports, etc. so many sacrifices. It would be a slap to the face to my parents who did the right thing while some their counterparts spent their income over ~20 years

This is class warfare. Simple compromise soulution is have everyone pay off the loans they took out, but forget the interest. Only have to pay the loans amount. Interest already paid is deducted from the loan Those that already paid off the loan get tax credits. That is fair Imagine building a system where educational institutions grift massive sums of money off the backs of their students in league with banks and the federal government to make the grift seem like a prudent, affordable decision. Then imagine getting decades into that system and thinking that validating the grift and paying off the institutions who made it that way is the answer. You’re just paving the way for bigger, better grift. This is dumb. This is just “too fucking bad this is what I want” disguised as “you’re being selfish if you don’t support this.” Where’s the equality here? These people did the work and paid their dues, and other people who won’t make the same sacrifices despite making the same commitment get let off the hook? How is that equal and fair in any way?
