I didn’t have to read past this to know he’s taking advantage of you. If he showed you he could cook on your birthday, it would be a slippery slope to him having to eventually take care of himself. This isn’t even a terrible thing, cooking isn’t an essential skill nowadays. Sure it’s better to know how to cook than not but with how available fast food and frozen food is there’s no practical reason to learn how to cook beyond for fun/better tasting food.
