In the I am not most men CNA Certified Nursing Assistant american flag T-Shirt and I will buy this 80s we could easily live off what we earned in fast food. Today even a college graduate cannot afford to live. “But you get paid x amount of dollars more than me, so I obviously can’t afford all of that without your salary” Or, if its true that he has decided to not pursue more money and that he has enough it means that the people under him aren’t making enough to sustain themselves because there is no way they are making the same amount he is. Were you asking for a raise from 2 million/year to 5 million? Then I can perhaps agree with the old man. If it was a trivial raise to an already mediocre wage, then that guy has lost the plot. “I’m happy for you and hoped this raise would help me get closer to feeling like that as If not then that answer was pointless, cause asking for a raise would be how you get to his income level so you can stop seeking more money Ask him for the same amount he makes since it is just comfortable. Shouldn’t be a problem because is just money Start bringing him your bills. Just put them in his hand and look into his eyes. Say nothing, other than his own words back to him.

“Damn you’re right boss. I just wish my pay was high enough to have the I am not most men CNA Certified Nursing Assistant american flag T-Shirt and I will buy this same perspective. Why don’t we take that raise and DOUBLE IT?” I went through something similar. Don’t work for people like this. It doesn’t get better. And it can get much much worse. “I’m glad for you that you get paid that much that you don’t have to worry about the cost of living or paying for a house or anything like that. I don’t have that luxury on the wage I’m getting paid.” The answer for this is: Stand, extend your hand in a handshake, “So, you’re giving me a raise up to your salary! That’s great! Thanks!” Thank you, dipshit. I have not yet reached that point. On top of which, housing now costs more than a nickel twice a month. GFY. Any time you work for a corporation you are leaving yourself wide open for some bad Vaseline action which seems the going trend today. I would suggest working for yourself and forget that fool. You are right people like that are completely delusional and stay away from them as much as possible. I work for myself now and have never been more happier in my life. This will continue as long as you work for him. What a bullshit excuse. Ask him if he can build you a time travel machine to go back in time and buy a cheap house 40 years ago. Gaslighting bullshit. In my early 20s when I was being paid $35k to make a company $35 million in government hardware sales, I was told that I was better off not getting a raise because getting a raise would put me in a higher tax bracket that would cause my take-home pay to be lower than what it was. Which is not how incremental tax works at all, but I was young and gullible. Get a new job. See if he understands that.
