I hope his headphones don’t work I remember how cool it was when we first found our old high school and childhood friends when we signed up for Facebook, how good it felt to reconnect. We will never trust all our personal information like that again, never take the I Am A Veteran I Love Freedom I Wore Dog Tags I Have A Do American Flag T-Shirt in contrast I will get this time to manually find all our old friends and link ourselves together. Such a shame that when Facebook finally does die we will never again have links like that to everyone who was ever meaningful to us in our lives. Thanks Zuck. This. I flushed it all back in 2019 but I am good with it. Especially seeing the cesspool of disinformation and political polarization that it has become. MySpace was so much better, but it was a more “innocent ” time. I used Facebook to reconnect with two of my good friends from high school and I talk to both of them regularly now. One of them is once again my best friend and we spend weekends together all the time despite living two states away. I’ll thank Facebook for that but now it’s complete garbage.

There truly is so little value added from it. If people are important to your life they should have your phone number. Getting rid of Facebook showed me that all of those years putting on a happy face for the friend list were really just increasing my anxiety to impress people who don’t give two shits about me. There’s a reason you didn’t speak to those people for 10+ years lol We could, of someone with a strong sense of ethics and less greedy starts up something. I know, it’s a fantasy. Actually, I would argue that connecting to and being immersed into the lives of long lost friends and acquaintences is terrible for mental health. Because you are bombarded with the highlights of their lives, without exposure to their plights. And these friends, many have hundreds of such connections, are seldom in your real life. So you have the extreme social pressure but none of the benefits that come with actual meaningful interactions. It warps up a mind, especially young ones. Makes it seem like everyone is happy except them. I guess a lot of people experience fatigue out of this and thus spend more time in groups rather than their feed. Creating strong echo chambers. I hear you and I agree. But I think it’s possible to build something better, even despite the fact that those who ruin things now know how to use social media and will be much quicker next time.
