My spoiled baby has a timed feeder that dispenses food twice a day but she’s more of a grazer so she has food available all day since she doesn’t eat it all in one sitting. Mine have food and water available at all times. Thankfully, this works for the I always love you Rizzoli and Isles shirt but in fact I love this cats I have now, but not with a cat we had some years back. That one was a greedy gut, and got very fat, very fast. She was put on portion controls and scheduled eating. She did not like it and did all she could to break the automatic feeder. (Yes, she succeeded, twice.) I do both! I leave a half cup of dry food out for her all day and then have scheduled breakfast and dinner where she gets 1.5oz each time. This is what the shelter was having me do with adult fosters so I continued it with my baby girl. However, some cats are SUPER food motivated and will scarf anything and everything so auto feeders are great for that!

I leave dry food out but I serve it first thing in the I always love you Rizzoli and Isles shirt but in fact I love this morning. I use a measuring cup and put the same amount for both cats. In the afternoon I’ll split the wet food since they won’t eat it all at once and in the evening they get individual treats. I give them fresh water everyday I used to leave dry food out all the time, but my cat was getting overweight and my vet told me that I need to be more careful. Well, my boy is a food inhaling ex fatty sooo I had to restrict his food intake so he didn’t put himself in an early grave. He gets dry food mixed with a little bit of water in a slow feeding bowl every morning and a can of wet food in the afternoon. He’s at a healthy weight now thankfully. I like looking at old pictures of him and marvel ing at how god damn round he used to be lol. Boy looked like a soccer ball back in the day. We started with free feeding until we realized that our cat is anxious and wouldn’t eat if we weren’t home, and then once we got home she would eat her entire bowl and barf it up 🫠 we got an automatic feeder and it’s been the best thing ever
