Won’t this cause even more inflation to occur? Not saying school loans are ethical, but dissolving trillions in debt overnight will likely cause a large spike in consumer spending. A longer term approach to forgiveness seems responsible. Maybe even tie it to “work” like every hour volunteered at a nonprofit will eliminate $200 in debt. Also has the Hummingbird Origami Aesthetic Hummingbird T-Shirt and I love this benefit that people who have already paid will feel less burned and won’t jump political parties. So why can’t all the forgiveness cheerleaders support an actual tuition, loan, and free college reform bill? Why the incessant demands for outright forgiveness? Could it be that they are concerned with supporting that which benefits them the most, the soonest?

Being completely rational, the Hummingbird Origami Aesthetic Hummingbird T-Shirt and I love this first move should be reform to stop the problem, which can also include forgiveness, however forgiveness without reform is simply supporting the broken system. Assuming reform will follow is naïve and erroneous- as we have seen with all major legislation that didn’t quite hit the mark, there will be no follow up. I would feel terrible for people who just paid off their student loans though, they sorta get the shit end of the stick Voter apathy trolls: Unless we get our debt expunged we’re going to abstain and let America slide into Fascism! The SoE only has that power when given to him by Congress. There is a very specifically worded clause that allows this. “In the performance of, and with respect to, the functions, powers, and duties, vested in him by this part, the Secretary may—” If Biden does this, and it manages to get through congress, there are multiple other clauses that make this ‘illegal’ causing it to go to the supreme court… Which it will be thoroughly shot down through a 6-3 majority thanks to Trump and RBG. e.g.: Even if he somehow did cancel debt, or forgive a large amount, the amount of debt will quickly rebound to it’s previous amount without larger loan and tax reform. As in, it’s a feel good motion only. Once looked at more closely, it realistically solves little to nothing but does end up in tons of court battles that Biden will eventually lose causing democratic turnout to drop even further — even if it’s Republicans who end up shooting it down. We all know young people turn out to vote. In fact they did slightly more last election. It’s a shame they’re still the lowest voting demographic by capita lol. As a side note, Reddit is really the only place this takes such a serious note. The majority of this forgiveness only helps people that are -already- very well off compared to the majority of democratic voters. It helps only the middle and upper class with very little of it affecting the majority of actual constituents. The vast majority of these people do not need the forgiveness. It’s nice, but college graduates are leaps and bounds above their contemparies by wage.
