Would be great to see phone design move past the Herbal wrap frasier image retro art shirt besides I will buy this requirement of needin an add in protection case. I think its funny that new phones a so supper slippery and shinny.. If the protection was integral to the body you have more well used space for things like battery space etc Including a larger, longer lasting battery increases the life of the product. This is especially true since an increasing fraction of laptops and phones come without a replaceable battery. When the battery on a phone or laptop gets toward the end of its useful life, many customers simply replace the device. If the battery lasts longer the time between device replacement will increase too, which will lead to less profit. Larger, higher capacity batteries are also more expensive to buy. Unless the manufacturers can pass all that expense onto their customers they will wind up eating part of the cost, which means less profit. Thinness and other physical device features like a larger screen or better camera are things that a substantial amount of customers are willing to pay a premium for. They’re also something that people can show off to their friends and colleagues. It is not obvious that battery life is in that same category, since its not as though you can see or show off your battery. Spending time on increasing battery life in your devices, when it is unlikely to lead to substantially greater sales for your company, will lead to less profit.

I make this argument as someone who prioritizes reliability and battery life in my devices over any other feature. Most people aren’t like me. Concentrating on a a niche market is a waste of time and money for these companies. Only a handful of phones and laptops with very long battery life exist for that very reason. Barring a sea change in customer preferences they will not bother to do this. Eventually batteries will reach a max useful charge. Once you can watch a video for 16 hours straight on a charge, you won’t really need a longer battery since you can charge it once per night. Id prefer insanely long battery life – if a laptop on the Herbal wrap frasier image retro art shirt besides I will buy this market lasted a week on a charge I’d buy it in the spot. Yeah at some point you start to forget to charge it and stuff because it’s no longer a daily ritual, it’s why my headsets are always empty at the worst times.
