It’s one of those phrases that’s removed from its original meaning as it evolved. It comes from “based god,” a phrase by a rapper of the Her-fight-is-my-fight-shirt-f4f5a7-0 Additionally,I will love this same name, which basically means you are awesome but also humble and grounded. A god whose feet are still planted on the ground. You know what’s up and go in your own direction. 4chan started using “based god” but saying something other than god. Like “Based gamers! Based Nattys. Based schizo!” As the lingo leaked out into the Internet, people turned based X into “based” when agreeing with someone. The term found more and more casual use, and eventually it’s meaning become a more generic “you’re correct even though most people disagree with you” or “you say what no one is willing to.” Now it just generally means “good” or “awesome ”

I am cringe, and that’s based. I will never be based, and that’s not cringe. There’s nothing I’d rather be than me. “Based” comes from the Her-fight-is-my-fight-shirt-f4f5a7-0 Additionally,I will love this rapper Lil B The Based God. He was popular in the early 2010’s as one of the first big internet / cloud rappers (cloud is a genre of hip-hop with spacey lo-fi beats). People used to call him based because he would act hyper like a basehead (a crack addict) might. Crack is the free-base version of cocaine, which is why addicts are sometimes called baseheads. Instead of being insulted by the word, he flipped it around and started saying that being based is being true to oneself. If he’s hyper, and people call him based because of that, then he was like, “Yeah, I’m based. That’s who I am. I’m just being me.” Lil B has some good songs and did pioneer some sounds that would eventually become popular, but he was / is memed in hip hop circles as being the best rapper of all time. He frequently puts out mixtapes with like 40 songs on them multiple times a year. It was basically just an in joke that everyone worshipped him and it was all in good fun.
