The anti-Assad forces control North Eastern Syria and have effectively made it into a separately governed country. Can be found in this map under blue: Livemap Syria For anyone thinking the Hello Kindergarten Messy Bun Sunglasses Tye Die T-Shirt it is in the first place but war is over; it’s not. Daily clashes still happen. There’s just no major front shifts anymore, almost stalemate. And we don’t hear it in the news. It’s functionally over like the Spanish civil war in January ’39, the few holdouts are desperation and internationally Assad is regaining his position Basically the only hope for the democratic forces or the kurds is israel “mistaking” a syrian military base for a Hezbollah one I mean, they don’t have a real presence on the ground and they mostly hit Hezbollah and Shiite (or at least Iran aligned) militias, although sometimes they hit Syrian ground infrastructures (supposedly used by them). Actually just a country that existed really briefly for a few year….. They literally had a functional government and ministries…. Even universities at one point. One could argue that despite being more expansionist than say the Talibabes, they were more competent in running a state than the Talis. Considering the circumstances of getting fucked in the ass by bombing from atleast 4 countries and fighting in every front ofc. Correct, US does not have boots on the ground at least not officially. Their attacks are all air strikes and drone strikes.

This is no longer an accurate diagram, the Hello Kindergarten Messy Bun Sunglasses Tye Die T-Shirt it is in the first place but ‘Free Syrian army’ doesn’t really exist as an entity anymore, and neither does Jabhat Fateh Al Sham or the Syrian Democratic Forces. The Syrian Opposition is mainly comprised of two main factions, the Syrian Salvation Government, mainly composed of Islamist groups (including Jabhat Fateh Al Sham, formerly Al Nusra/Al Qaeda in Syria) and the Syrian Interim Government, which are mainly Turkish-backed ethnic nationalists. The SDF is now the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) backed by the US-led coalition against ISIS (although they are currently at odds with the Syrian Government and Iran). Ironically, the stagnation of the war, and the consolidation of power from the Turkish-backed groups and the Islamist infighting, has led to the conflict being far simpler than it once was.
