All it does it make sure we can’t get ahead like how rich people do. Helping your children get ahead should be how we all work.. In a lot of poverty stricken homes, you will be stuck at home, because your parents can’t afford to survive without you. Some kids leave because they want the independence and some get to stay until they are ready. However, some are expected to leave because the parents feel like they have done their job and are ready to “resume” their lives again. They’d probably want you out if you could no longer follow their rules or contribute to the household. The teen years are hard on parents’ nerves for sure. Well the vast majority of Americans don’t kick their kids out at 18. However there are people that do. But if you took a moment and took a survey of people under 18 and ask what they want to do with their life most of the guys will say I want to be a streamer. Or a YouTube star. Or an influencer. .. so realistically they don’t want to get a real job that pays bills Probably for the “same reasons” (some) Venezuelans kicked them OUT to 1) Grow up 2) To help get the family some monetary income to raise other children. 3) To get divorced and to sell the house where they once grew (there are more reasons to “kick” (SOME) children out. My children all know they can live at home as long as they need. Oldest son is 23 and married but we have 4 more children. Our three girls (21, 18, and 10) know they have a place here with us as long as needed. We are even building a house in Texas right now with rooms for each of them and their 7 yo youngest brother. It’s the Industrial Revolution warped mindset that expects their kids to move out at 18.

As an American who met a wonderful Norwegian partner it’s partly for two reasons. The first being parents probably see it as an extra burden and think being tough and “kicking them out of the Happy Independence Day 4th July 1776 American Flag T-Shirt and I will buy this nest” will make them strong enough to live on their own in the long run (before moving in with them when they’re old rent free of course). The second reason I’ve found is so many of us are beaten and battered by this cycle to the point we don’t even question if it’s the morally right thing to do. Sure they have the right to I guess, but it’s not necessarily right to do it. I myself have so many developmental issues that will probably stunt my ability to live autonomously forever, due to my autism diagnosis i was stuck with a paraprofessional for 9 out of 12 grades of school, and talked to like a special needs student by my speech teachers. I probably will never know anything of true self reliance due to the school system’s treatment of autistic/gifted children, and yet my parents are too set in the cycle to care, they threatened to kick me out if I didn’t get whatever job they wanted me to have making specific amounts of money. You arent seen as family at 18, you’re seen as a burden unless you’re paying a toll.
