The openness of racism in the Happy Go Lucky St Patricks Day Raibow Leopard Shamrock Irish Ireland T-Shirt and by the same token and balkans… Serbs, Albanians… I couldn’t tell one from the other, but holy shit they just want to kill each other… And they’re just totally 100% open and honest about it. A friend lived in Germany for a while and said that birthdays were really cool because on your birthday you make all the food and desserts and people visit you throughout the day to celebrate with you. If that’s true I think that’s really cool. He viewed it as the birthday person thanking everyone for being there for them. That circumcision is still so widespread in religions where the practice likely arose from said cultures or ethnic groups being mass-circumcised as a workforce by their masters/occupiers as a forced health and hygiene measure. In Buddhism they measure a long amount of time in Kalpas and when a previous Dalai Lama was asked how long a kappa was he said “The Amount of time it takes to reduce a mountain 100 by 100 by 100 miles to the size of a grain of sand. If you stroked the mountain once a century with a silk handkerchief”

In some places in the Happy Go Lucky St Patricks Day Raibow Leopard Shamrock Irish Ireland T-Shirt and by the same token and Far East, if you beckon someone by crooking your finger at them in the classic “come over here” gesture – it is deeply offensive/insulting. Apparently, the way we do it in the West – we make a kind of fist, palm facing upwards, index finger extending and contracting – is the sort of way someone would summon an animal; the closed fist, palm facing upwards, implying that our hand contains something, that we have some food for it. Hence how it is perceived as insulting when used against people. It seems that if you want to gesture “come here” in some countries in the Far East you have to have your palm facing down, not up. And you make the gesture not by using one finger, but all four at once, so that the entire palm can be seen not to be holding anything. I was bemused when a Malaysian friend pointed this out. I found it amazing that a gesture that was so innocuous could be held to be so offensive, but when he explained it it kind of made sense.
