Sorry to break it to you, but he’s about to hit a ceiling in his career. He’ll plateau in his 30’s as a senior dev, but won’t get much further as an asshole. So, just to summarize a few things. You have no idea how good he is at his job. He has no idea how good you are at your job. He has no idea how easy your job is. You have no idea how easy his job is. Maybe you get paid more than him and he is jealous. Maybe not. The only absolute is that he is being a huge asshole and this is no way to behave. I’m going to be honest, you may need to be a little blunt. Next time he says it at the Halloween Black Cat Knife Blood Vintage Just The Tip I Promise T-Shirt Apart from…,I will love this dinner table, say “to be honest that’s kind of rude. I work hard and am successful at my job.” You can take it as far as you want, but sometimes, sorry to say it, you have to stick up for yourself and deal with short term awkwardness for long term respect and improvements in your relationships. Also, I’ve known people who act mean to cover not being good at their jobs. If they are difficult to deal with, people will avoid asking them questions. I’ve seen guys skate by like that for years.

There’s literally ZERO context clues to point to him being demeaning to all women and treating them differently. But it took the Halloween Black Cat Knife Blood Vintage Just The Tip I Promise T-Shirt Apart from…,I will love this application of the consequences of his actions for years, and years, to get him to start acting like an adult. More importantly, I never budged. When my parents cajoled, when my relatives belittled, I never stopped until he changed his behavior. This is hard. Your parents are going to disagree with you, your relatives might disagree with you, and you’re going to face MORE abuse before you face less. But, if you stick with it, stay calm, and explain yourself, it will get better. If I were his coworker and learned that at the age of 30, he’s flexing on his sister for doing data engineering instead of devops, I don’t think I’d be able to look at him the same way ever again. Since when is a script to pull a few secrets from Secrets Manager to a Lambda the “hard part”? Guy seems like a tool. Data engineers are getting more popular and gaining prestige. DevOps, while important, is getting to be less novel, and I’d guess your brother knows this. He’s just nervous his job will be old news before too long. At first my goal was Devops.. as I worked more and more on “devops-y” types things aka a million and one tools, all with their own learning curve, config management.. when a lot of places have dedicated config engineers, security… same thing, networking, same thing, deployment engineering… same thing… before I knew it, I looked in the mirror and saw a clown face on me.
