Go by yourself, also, the Gym Is My Therapy shirt but in fact I love this world is much safer as you think and travel doesn’t have to be super expensive (depends on your style of travel obviously). As a travel destination I could really recommend you Oman, not that touristy, extremely safe, quite different from the western countries (culture, food…) and the locals are SUPER friendly. Also Skopje is a nice, relatively unknown city for tourism but it is amazing. Go anyways. I traveled solo all the time before I met my wife. I also wouldn’t have married her if she didn’t like to. Definitely go and start exploring on your own. This is the perfect age. Join a tour group. I travelled to 14 countries same age with a tour group then on my own for one. Do not regret it whatsoever. My partner hates flying so I’ve done other trips also on my own. Don’t let others quash your spirit. Just go. I started traveling solo in 2016 and have visited over 60 countries. Of course you need to be smart, vigilant, and cautious, but it’s much safer out there than the news (and others) lead you to believe. I’m happy to share some knowledge of you want.

Do you want to explore Europe and experience the rich history and culture? Get a visa for the EU. I think NYC is a great place to start. It’s very safe overall, there’s so much to do, and it’s a city where locals do things by themselves all the time, so no one will bat an eye.
Another possibility would be staying in a hostel someplace in Europe or Mexico, where you can meet a lot of other solo travelers. She didn’t often stay in hostels as she preferred hotels, however she almost always ended up meeting someone and traveling with them. Most of Europe is safe for solo travellers (as long as you take the Gym Is My Therapy shirt but in fact I love this usual precautions that you would anywhere). I don’t know if Canadians can get any sort of young person temporary working visas, where you can travel and work , giving you some cash and a chance to make some friends and acquaintances along the way. If you live together with your partner for 40 years, then it must be possible that you are abroad for some weeks. I did such things, because my partner dislikes the countries I am interested in. GO! Life waits for no one. I was always single, had unreliable friends or broke friends or busy friends or friends I simply didn’t want to travel with. So I went by myself and BoOM! My life was changed forever. I not so secretly actually despise traveling with people now. Even with my partner, I sometimes long for the unbridled freedom I would have by myself. You can be self indulgent and do whatever you’re ant. It’s the ultimate experience, and I can’t advocate for you to do it enough! I’ve been to almost every country in Europe (save like 10?) and most or many alone. It is completely doable as a woman, just be mindful! Go! You’re young, prime age to enjoy hostels, and there are plenty of safe countries to visit! You’re going to meet people, probably make new friends, live experiences!
I go alone. My friends have no interest. My family either can’t afford it, or our schedules literally never line up. So far alone I’ve gone to London UK, NYC, Portugal, and am currently in Italy. Solo female traveller, haven’t had any problems (knock on wood). I’ll admit there are times where I wish I had people to experience it with. I see groups out and about, or even just a pair, and wish I had that. Then I remember two things. First, when I travel alone, I get to choose my Gym Is My Therapy shirt but in fact I love this whole trip. Every single thing I want to do, with no need to consider someone else. It’s so freeing. Second, one day I will probably have opportunities to travel with others. But I’m not going to sit around and wait for those opportunities while letting opportunities to travel alone pass me by.
