Ranging from white to black sand. You can drive down the road and see ocean for miles. People pull over climb over the railing and surf. There’s more beaches that suck than good ones. Sandy beaches are way better in the Caribbean. And the water is way too cold in Hawaii.

Been to Hawaii and Florida, and I also thought the beach experience was better in Florida if you’re going strictly for the beach. Like you said, overall experience Hawaii is amazing. The beaches in Florida are boring. And often you can’t see the ocean from the road in many places or there are there enormous parking monstrosities. The sand is nice and fluffy but Hawaii beaches were some of the most impressive in the world to me. I’ve reached the conclusion that they’re only popular beaches they’re cheap.

Hawaii has “proper” sand beaches, at least the ones I saw. Nice color too. Mediterranean beaches are also nice and sandy, but the weather especially in summer is just oppressive: dry oven. Some beaches in volcanic regions (Indonesia) have interesting colors, but might get very hot. My dad is a pilot and has been to all 7 continents and a lot of very unusual places. He claims that Hawaii is the nicest beach you can find. He says Tahiti and Bora Bora etc are just Hawaii but they take longer to get to. I myself have been to 25 countries and the only other beach nicer than Hawaii is on the Whitsunday islands – which takes 15 hours from LAX and a long boat trip to get to.

We go to Hawaii once or twice a year and it is consistently a great vacation. It can be super cheap if you do it right. We paid $200 for round trip flights to Kona recently. You know what you’re getting in Hawaii. There will be any food you want need, cheap groceries at Walmart. Good time had by all every single time. But it does not compare to Bora-Bora. I had a British guy argue with me that Bali is better. Bali is not even 10% close to what Hawaii has to offer, like someone else said only Tahiti would come close and it’s more humid there. Not sure where you are from but I’m tired of people telling americans they should travel more. The united states is the size of Europe going state to state is a huge deal. Shit is so expensive there an international flight is out of the question for most. Europeans can take a train. It is just bullshit to call them out. I’ve never been to any other world class beaches but my trip to Oahu was magical. I know that sounds corny but it was an experience that will be hard to top with future travel.

The whole time I was there last year, I was thinking how I’d rather be somewhere like Ecuador or Costa Rica. It also rained the entire time we were there. We didn’t go for beaches though, we went for the National Parks. I felt this as well. I’m going again to give it another chance, but even as a 12 year old, Kona felt devoid of culture in a sad way. I loved Tahiti and the beaches were amazing but I was on a sailing trip so I wasn’t stuck on one island. Greece and the Mediterranean ain’t a beach place. They have seaside stuff but lots of it is beach clubs or pebble beaches instead of sand. I haven’t been to the other destinations but the locals in Hawaii ruin the experience tbh. They rival France’s reputation in rudeness.
