Nurse in Austria here. Nope we don’t get paid the Grinch Hat Santa And Dog Car Jeep Eff You See Kay Why Oh U Merry Christmas Shirt and I will buy this extra hour. That’s at least how it is if you work for the city… As a nurse, we get paid the extra hour but it’s not considered overtime. My partner works in a factory, he got to leave an hour early so he still only worked 12 hours. As a police officer you get fucked for the hour as well & hope that you’re working spring ahead to make up for it. Bonus points to any coppers who have had to explain in court why you pulled over the car at 0230 and locked up the drunk driver at 0229. 😀 Depends on the contract. If your contract specified you’re paid an hourly rate, or number of hours in a shift, you get paid the extra hour. If it specifies times (between 9pm-4am eg), you work the extra hour and hopefully it evens out when the clocks go forward. In the UK at least, when I looked into it a few years ago. Working the hotel reception night shift, I recently did get paid the extra hour (with the nightly bonus applied) here in Germany. I worked my regular 12 hours then went home. So technically went home an hour early but still worked my full shift. Having worked (and managed) in gas stations and fast food restaurants, the approach varied. But my general rule of thumb was “don’t screw over your full timers, especially the ones who do nights”

In the Grinch Hat Santa And Dog Car Jeep Eff You See Kay Why Oh U Merry Christmas Shirt and I will buy this fall, someone would come in an hour earlier to relieve the night shift. So they leave after 8 hours, same as usual. In the spring, the shift would either start earlier or end later for that one night. So that they don’t end up with a paycheck lower than they are used to. You get paid for it, in the US at least. When I worked retail we had a single instance of this, and not only did we have to clock out and in at Midnight for record keeping, they had us clock out and in again to make room for the clock changeover for payroll’s record keeping. If you’re paid per hour then you get paid for an extra hour that day. Nothing significant happens for salaried employees. Oh, this is for me. I work graveshift at a hospital. For one shift out of the year, I have an 11 hour shift. For one shift out of the year I have a 13 hour shift. We just kinda work until the new time out is, whether that’s an hour less or an hour more. Having just worked that dreaded shift last weekend. Yes, I worked a 13 hour night shift and got paid my normal 12 hours at regular hourly play plus one hour at overtime pay. Typically, they will work an extra hour during that shift. For example, if the shift is from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM, when the clocks go back, they may work from 11:00 PM to 6:00 AM instead, covering the additional hour. Employers and employees usually have procedures in place to handle this time change smoothly to ensure everyone gets paid for their correct hours worked. Well…I can tell you that Halliburton in Odessa (at least 4-ish years ago) would only give you an extra hour on the paycheck. Not even overtime.
