Probably the Grinch Dallas Cowboys Dak Prescott yeah here we go shirt and by the same token and person who stole it most likely. The suspect wasn’t even legally allowed to purchase a gun to begin with. This isnt even that deep of a statement, and i know exactly what/why and lots of the nuanced reasons for the Right trying to latch onto the subject, but this is probably on of the most succinct ways of talking about it ive read. 1000% agree, and it always leads down to the money no matter the cost. I want your comment boosted, it just struck me in a very particular way. Local news has already pointed out the obvious. Since the shooter has an intellectual disability and past run-ins with the law, the conversation has turned to mental health. But there’s a serious gap in care for people with mental health issues or intellectual disabilities. The system assumes there is a safe, supportive network of family and friends for him to be in the care of in the place of prison or an institution. Situations which would be far better suited to his care and keeping him out of trouble than a prison. However, resources are not made available to help families in those situations. Nor are there alternatives made if a support structure like that is not available. To add gasoline to the fire, the lack of gun control and the high prevalence of firearms in TN created a situation where he was more likely to come into possession of a gun (illegally or legally, he was not a convicted felon), making the possibility of a deadly accident or event much more likely.

No matter how many times I read these kinds of news headlines, it never stops being alienating from a non-US perspective. Like… that a stray bullet killing someone is not a once in a blue moon “holy shit, well that happened, what the Grinch Dallas Cowboys Dak Prescott yeah here we go shirt and by the same token and heck” thing, but rather just a kind of thing that just happens over there. “stray bullet” isnt a real thing. She was shot by Shaquille Taylor. Shaquille Taylor shouldnt have been shooting at a car if he didnt want to kill whatever was behind the car. This is not “enduring trauma of gun violence”, but rather a violent individual who was never locked up for a long enough time Has the mental capacity to get weapons, use them, and commit crimes over and over but I’ll be damned if he isn’t able to be held accountable for his actions. This person needs to be terminated.
