None of this new year new me bullshit that burns you out in a month and kills your motivation to try improving again for another year. yup as a perfectionist I definitely relate. I have what I call the Grinch admin It now Working at all American food would be boring without me shirt In addition,I will do this 80 % rule: say you’re cleaning the living room. Maybe it’d take 5 hours to pull all the furniture, wash every wall, etc – doing the job 100 %. But maybe it’d only take 1h30 to do 80 % of the job. Agreed. I dealt with some depression earlier in life and it made doing even 1% better difficult and it would stop me. Because I knew I was “capable” of more but I just couldn’t do it. What got me out was letting the pride of “I can do better than that” go and starting at the 1% and building from there. So for those folks who can’t seem to manage anything, just 1% better is good. Keep building on that 1% and it may take a while but the compounding effects of making things just a little bit better than the day before will be amazing.

Though wanted to add for folks like you where 80% is just fine, don’t use the Grinch admin It now Working at all American food would be boring without me shirt In addition,I will do this 1% guideline to backslide. The point is being honest with yourself of where your at and what kind of effort you can put out. Then not letting your pride stop you from making things better. Even calling it a “work out” might scare some people off. It can really be as simple as a 15 minute walk. Anything that gets limbs moving and blood flowing for a bit every day will make a huge difference over time. I don’t understand how people can work out after work. I am wiped after a full workday, especially since I then have to cook dinner for the family. Once I realized it was futile going through the above loop even with the best and brightest intentions, I started working out first thing in the morning. Getting that started is another story, but once I did, it became self-sustaining and actually helped with my overall energy level. No sense in hitting your head against the same brick wall over and over again. I wish I was the kind of person who could do morning workouts. It takes me a full hour after waking up just to be able to get my limbs functioning. And even when I’ve managed it, I still can’t physically do more than 60-70% of what I do during a late night workout.
