I have been using Google TV for years now and never see ads. I’ve enjoyed it so much I have one for every TV in my house as all I do is streaming now. Same. It works pretty flawlessly, especially combined with other Google products. Just leave it on HDMI 1 for my Apple TV, and use the Apple remote for everything. It’s a shame what LG did to their UI. It was fantastic with the motion remote. Like a mini-DDOS on your own network. That behavior is typical of pretty much every IoT device on the market. It isn’t an issue and it isn’t a “ddos”. I mean, it is coded to try to connect to a server. There is nothing malicious about it. Calling it a ddos just shows you don’t really know much about the subject other than what a ddos is. I think by DDOS he just means it’s jamming up the router. Although I really doubt it is unless it’s trying to reconnect thousands of times per second. I never connected my tv to the internet but have read horror stories where it will search for unlocked web access and connect itself. I live in the middle of nowhere so not too worried about that, but I wonder if this is truly an issue?9 I didn’t do wifi setup initially. Now I have a simple way for checking for updates. I just turn on the wifi, do the update, then immediately turn it off before I can forget. I don’t get the convenience of automatic updates, but I only do it every few months. So it ends up not being too annoying.
