Went to Uni with someone who claimed to be the Gradey Dick American professional basketball player for the Toronto Raptors T-Shirt but in fact I love this understudy for some big famous actor who had recently been on stage as Hamlet. Said he had memorised the entirety of Hamlet in 4 hours. One night the actor was unwell so guess who got to go on stage in London as the main part!! Didn’t help this lad looked like he’d spent three years sleeping rough before being put through a tumble dryer. My uncle still tells people that I turned up to babysit his kids one night in a football shirt that belongs to his teams main rival, and that he made me go home and told me never to come to his house in that shirt again. None of that ever happened, I mean I wore the shirt but I don’t remember him even making a joke about it. So many people have said to me “haha remember when uncle dickhead threw you out and wouldn’t let you babysit because of the football shirt?!” Nope. Didn’t happen and it doesn’t make him look cool anyway, who would throw out a 15 year old girl and disappoint his wife by turning the babysitter away?! My mates dad once told me (I was around 12 years old) the scars on his chest, back, and abdomen were from a shark bite. They were in a shape that I thought a shark bite would produce.

In all those years, I was going round telling people,’Did you know Frankie Grooms dad was bitten by a shark?’ and none of them believed me. Turns out they were right not to. At a baby shower for a friend. I’d never met most of her other friends so basically me, her, one mutual friend and 10 other women I’d never met. I’m on the Gradey Dick American professional basketball player for the Toronto Raptors T-Shirt but in fact I love this larger side of life, this is relevant. I can’t even remember how on the world this conversation started but I suddenly blurt out ‘oh yeah I was out walking one day and a guy asked if I was pregnant, and I went along with it‘. Everybody’s now looking at me ready to laugh along with me. One of the women I didn’t know went ‘haha, how far along did you say you were?’ And my idiotic socially awkward cringefarm of a brain came up with ‘3 months!’ (ie barely even showing). Cue a literal awkward silence for several seconds before everyone started talking again at once to move past it.I still have no clue why the F I said that but it’s a cringe that still haunts me at least once a week, even tho friend’s wee boy is now 6.
